when throttle is slow to go back to idle.

Try cleaning the Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid using the spray-type carb/throttle cleaner.

Check the vacuum hoses on the engine to see if one is disconnected or has a hole in it.

Also have the computer scanned for codes and if one is present list it here for further assistance.

Thank you so much for the heads up on where to look,I will have a look at the hoses and solenoid,and i will get the ELM 327 i have and learn how to use it :) so i can see if there are trouble codes to put up here,this is such a great site i am so glad this is around for us novices,Cheers Freemba.
P.S would WD 40 be ok to spray solenoid,I am going to degrease the engine as well before looking for the suspect hoses.

No, WD-40 is not designed to cut through the build-up on a throttle body. Use throttle body cleaner (also called carburetor cleaner), it comes in a spray can and you can get it at your local auto parts store.
By the way, some parts stores will read your codes for FREE. It yours will just write them down and post them her for more assistance.

Hi there,just updating the spare parts place wanted $14,i know it not much but for me on limited money it was for the codes,i am not driving the car and i am getting a reader soon i will give you what codes it brings up for you,please it may take some time,Also i have a new problem,not long after having the starter motor put in by a auto wrecker,i noticed i am going through coolant,i have looked and saw green coolant on the plastic splash tray below the water pump on right side,i am going to get underneath it remove cover and get a better idea of where it is coming from,i was hoping it was something easy like faulty cap or thermostat but the leaks don't lie so i guess its not that or a blown head gasket as there is no water in oil.I remember the lady saying the mechanic had trouble with some bolt at the back of the starter motor and took a while i just hope he did not bust something up,i was getting a pink slip and it was due the same day so i was forced to use them. Ok enough raving from me more work ;)

Hello there,been away for a month,Ok i have connected to the obd interface and although it connects and recognizes the vin of the car and runs it is saying that there are no trouble codes,that was with scanxl pro software,the only thing i can do is try some more programs and try to find any codes there,but it seems that problem is taking a back seat to the coolant loss i am getting,it appears to be coming from the pulley and running down the water pump housing,now i am back i will get underneath and try to get a better look at it,my engine is the XEP type with chain timing and flow thru water pump housing,do you think the mechanic who replaced the starter motor could have damaged it,he did say he had trouble with a bolt at the back of the starter motor. ok will have a look when i can and try to get more detailed info for you,cheers

The mechanic who replaced the starter likely did not cause the water leak. The starter and water pump are far apart on this engine.
Chances are you have a faulty water pump seal (it seals the water pump shaft just behind where water pump pulley bolts onto the pump). You'll have to replace the pump if this is the problem. You can remove the water pump pulley to get a better look.

gday freemba,well i got a new pump and have just put it in,all good no leaks and is running beaut,i will get the carby body cleaner soon and do the area and double check the hoses,i noticed when i took out the air cleaner box the throat of the carby has a bit of sludge around it so i will clean it out,oil from the engine it looks like,I need your advice tho,I used some Rislone radiator 10 minute flush,opened the heater and ran it for 20 minutes,I flushed it several times put green coolant in,but some of the flush treatment was left in and has mixed with the green,is it ok to leave in or should i maybe empty again say after a week and put more green in?cheers hayd..P.S it does say it is not acidic but it does smell like it is alkaline.

The (green) coolant will not be adversely affected by the engine flush (being that it is in a small amount. So, that is no real concern.
When cleaning the throttle body, be sure to have a partner to hold the gas pedal all the way to the floor (engine off) so that you can get to the area immediately behind the throttle. Also, clean the edges of the throttle plate (also called the butterfly).

Thanks,I will do that Freemba as for the hoses i cannot see or feel any problems,but i will pull them off and check for blockages,great to know i dont need to buy more coolant,cheers mate.
