The transmission drops out of overdrive when you let it cool off it starts working again.

What happens is the overdrive unit itself wears out which bolts to the rear of the transmission. You will need to raise the truck up and remove the driveshaft first. Here is a guide to help you get started with instructions in the diagrams below to show you how to remove the overdrive unit:

I am not sure I think a transmission shop will need to rebuild the unit.
