I get a squeaking noise from the left front wheel that just started today. It begins around 15-20 mph, but then stops when braking. Took the wheel off and checked to see if maybe a rock had got stuck somewhere, but I did not find anything. could it possibly be the wheel bearing failing?

If that is a high-pitched squeal, that is typical of a wear indicator telling you it is time to have the brakes inspected. The pads often shift slightly when you apply the brakes, and that moves the "squeakers" away from the rotors momentarily, and the noise stops.
