Shifter stuck in neutral

Key won't come out and can't start car. took the shifter out and the shifter is still stuck in neutral. What part is bad?

More than likely this is the shift solenoid in the shifter that has failed. Basically the vehicle is shifted into park and the solenoid allows the key to be released. The not starting issue could be that the ECM doesn't see it in park or neutral.

I would look at removing the console to access the switch and you may be able to press it to get good contact and it will come out. That will not only confirm the issue but show you what specifically needs to be replaced.
