gear shift knob moved but my actual gears did not

My car worked fine last night. but this morning when i tried to use it it did not work. the car turned on and everything worked, but when i tried to shift into drive my gear shift knob moved but my actual gears did not. they remained in park. no matter how much i moved the knob to shift it the gears did not move out of park.

Hello,

It sounds like you lost your shift cable. Open the hood and someone watch it while you shift the gears to see if the transmission gear selector moves. Here is some guides (below) so you can see what I am talking about Please let us know what happens, we are interested to see what it is.
