Air conditioner works intermittently

Most of the time it works. I had my AC on for hours while taking a road trip it failed only once for about fifteen minutes. I turned it on and off bunch of times then it turned on. When the AC is not working the engine makes different growl when gas is applied.

The cooling fan does turn on when I turn the AC.

It this a clutch or pulley issue?

It sounds like the system is overcharged, but to be sure let's check the high side pressure and it would be helpful if you took a video of the noise with your phone and upload it here in your reply.
