We were told the car was totaled...

My boyfriend accidentally hit a wall while at a gas station a couple weeks ago (no judgement, please). He doesn't know what to do with the car as he doesn't have the money to fix it and was told it was totaled (by my understanding, a car is totaled if one doesn't have the money to repair the car if the repairs cost more than the car is worth). I'm just wondering, does it make sense to sell the car for parts or should he try to save the money to repair the car? Again, I don't know very many details, I'm just trying to help him out.

A car is considered totaled when the cost to repair it exceeds the value of the vehicle when repaired. I'm a little confused as to how that much damage could have been done in a parking lot. Without knowing specifically what the damage is or the condition of the rest of the car, it's impossible to advise you what to do with it.
