sometimes when the a/c is turned on a strong vinegary smell comes out. What causes this and what can I do to eliminate it?

Looks like you are just out of warranty so it may cost you a bit to have the cabin system deodorized and cabin filter replaced. Also your afterblow function may be turned off so you would need software to turn it back on. What the afterblow function does is after 20 hours of A/C operation the blower motor will come on for about 5 minutes on high to dry off the evaporator so that it does not smell.
