My Volvo has just seized up, the garage i have taken it to says its due to very dirty oil, no oil light came on before the incident, the RAC man said we had plenty of oil, a new engine is said to be £6500.
Should this of happened i had a oil change in January?
They say the oil was very thick?
Hope you can advise.

HI there,

this is a bit hard to tell with out viewing the damage, if the oil was extremely dirty and deposits were restricting the oil galleries, you may have a problem, the oil galleries can thicken up with deposits form dirty oil, and cause supply problems over a period of time, not unlike doctors telling us about blocked arteries.... choke off the supply and failure will occur, ask to see under the rocker cover and check the overhead gear, if it is covered in thick deposits of carbon and muck, this will be the reason for the failure i feel.Mark (mhpautos)
