2000 Volvo XC70

We bought our XC70 used a couple of years ago. I have never felt that the seatbelts properly worked. They do not extend fully and then retract and lock, so I am nervous with my kids and the safety of the seatbelts. How can I check if they would work in an accident? Thank you,
Stephanie

Which seatbelts are you talking about? The front ones or the rear ones. If is is the rear would it be possible if you took a picture of the problem belt at the top of it where it retracts into and a picture of the good belt?
