Is it common for fuel smell to linger after fuel pump replacement? Just had fuel pump replaced under warranty on my 06 V70 5 cyl with 21,900 miles because sending unit was not functioning properly resulting in my fuel gauge showing Empty when the tank was full. Picked up car tonight and it stinks of gasoline. Dealer told me the smell would go away in 2 hrs. - 5 hours later it has not even diminished slightly. I lifted up back seat where they were working and it absolutely stinks. This problem first presented in August 07 at 18,000 appx. First round they couldnot find anything wrong. Second time, one week later, they acknowledged the problem and recalibrated some computer equipment. That seemed to fix the problem until the most recent episode of inaccurate fuel gauge display. Very concerned about odor or possible leak.
