How do I shut off the check engine light?

Auto Zone told me gas cap is loose. I tightened it and went to the Volvo dealer who turned off the check engine light but had no replacement gas caps in stock. The light has since come on again and I want to shut it off till I can get the new gas cap. Question is: how do I shut the check engine light ( I tried holding the trip button in the #1 ignition position then moving to the #2 position, but the light didn't turn off.) Off?

Hello,

In order to turn off the check engine light you will have to clear the code.
This needs to be done with a diagnostic scanner.
Keep in mind that until the issue is taken care of, the light will come back on in a short period of time after you clear the code.
