I insatalled a new catalytic converter and about after six months I am receiving po code 422. Does this mean the cat is bad?

Either that or the downstream 02 sensor is switching too much, could be a bad sensor.

Top image shown normal efficency, bottom is low efficency. This can be seen with scantool set to read live data from the 02 sensors. Today's sensors are designed for 100,000 miles of service, you are over that, a fresh set of 02's might be needed anyway!

If you installed an aftermarket cat did they install an OBD2 catalytic converter?
