1998 Volvo V70 Black smoke from tailpipe / Poor gas mileage

This volvo runs great except for black smoke from tailpipe. Check engine light is on. Will run pretty well in city or Highway. It has stalled once while idling.

This volvo runs great except for black smoke from tailpipe. Your fuel mixture is in the rich side-check the fuel pressure to rule out an excessive pressure/injector/s not closing/coolant temperature and oxygen sensor not switching modes.
