1997 Volvo V40 Ball Joint

I need to replace my F/O/S lower arm ball joint. I have looked at this before but I am unsure if I can simply replace the ball joint without replacing the whole lower arm?? I know that the ball joint is sold as a stand-alone part so it must be replaceable?
