Hi LtCol Mike,
Does turning the steering wheel to release the tension on the lock make it easier to turn the key?
Do you need to wiggle the key to turn it?

No to your first question and yes, at times it will release when you wiggle it. Thank you for your reply.

The symptoms indicates a failing key cylinder. The tumblers could be worn and sticking at times when being turned. A little lubricants in the cylinder might help but DO NOT over apply.
You would need to get the key cylinder repaired or replaced.
