Will low oil or a malfunction in the gearbox cause a car not to start for safety reasons? It was driving and shifting fine before and now it won't start or even try to turn over like somethings telling it not too.

If your arrow was flashing then there is a troubled code stored in the transmission control module. Could be your transmission position switch (nuetral safety switch) may be misadjusted or bad. Take to your local repair shop or transmission specialist or dealer for proper diagnosis. If it is your transmission position switch that is bad you need a special tool to align the mark so that it can accuratly tell the transmission control module that the transmission is either in park or nuetral so you can start your vehicle. If it thinks it is in some other gear then it will not start.
