Noises problem
2003 Volvo S60 4 cyl Automatic 93,500 miles

About 3 weeks ago, I had my timing belt, idler and cam seals replaced. Not because they were giving me problems but because my warranty was about to expire, so my mechanic decided that it would be okay to change those things out a little early. Nothing else was wrong with the car, but about a week later I started to hear this loud noise coming from the engine whenever I hit the accelerator. It sounds like a dirt bike when the engine is being revved up. Everytime I hit the gas, especially going uphill, no matter how fast I'm going it sounds that way. It's loud on the inside of the car, but even louder on the outside. I took the car back to that mechanic who says the catalytic converter has now gone bad, but it had nothing to do with the timing belt. Can anyone please help shed light on this?

The header pipe weld probably just gave out causing it to split apart where it mounts on to the turbo. Really common problem and has nothing to do with the timing belt. You could try and see if an exhaust shop can weld it back, if not then you will need to replace the cat.
