I tried to have my car inspected at the Volvo dealer yesterday. They said it couldn't be done because there was some play in the inner tie rods and told me it would cost $500. Somehow I don't believe either the problem or the cost. As there is no decernable play in the steering. What do you think? Thanks!

500 dollars is a bit of a steep price for replacing the tie rods

they replacing inner and outer? does the fee include parts, labor and diagnostic fees?

to check the tie rods have someone turn the wheel and you look for play in the tie rods where they meet the steering kuncles if the tie rods move but the steering knuckles dont, then chances are they are worn.
