2004 Volvo S40 Free spinning

I was at a light in drive and I hit the gas and heard a pop noise then me car wouldn't work in any gear including park. The motor was running and it felt like it was in neatral.

Have the axles check. Have seen them just pop out or the inner axle itself busted internally but usually there is some noise with that also.
