My 2001 Volvo S40 at about 80,000 miles started to take around 6 seconds to start up. I was just wondering how I can improve or fix this slow start up.

Does it do it all the time or just when sitting for a while?

Sorry for the slow reply.
It has a slow start up everytime, even after it was just driven.

You could have an issue with the fuel pressure regulator. Let the car sit over night and on the next day disconnect the vacuum hose at the intake side from the fuel pressure regulator. If you have fuel then that is what is causing your hard start. Fuel is flooding out your engine until it clears out and lets it start after. If that is not your problem you could have a sticking idle air control valve but would recommend you take it in to a shop to verify.

Thanks for narrowing down the possible issues. Before I go taking it into the shop, I want to try your idea of disconnecting the vacuum hose. But where can this hose be found? And if is an idle air control issue, then I will probably just take it in to the shop if you do not know of a way to deal with that at home.

The regulator is attached at the end of the fuel rail. Attaching pic. Good luck and let me know what happens.
