Hi.i have a 2000 volvo s40 1.9 when replacing a timing belt and setting the timing dos the num 1 cyclinder need to be tdc on compression stroke?where are the timing marks lacated on the engine at the crank

Hello, Here is a page that was all the information you need to get the job done replacing the timing belts. https://www.2carpros.com/diagrams/volvo/s40/2001 The note say this is an INTERFENCE ENGINE any movement of crank or cams with belt off will result in engine damage. Yes No.1 at TDC compression stroke. see figure for marks.
