1998 Volvo S40 clicking noise from behind the glove box

a noise that sounds like a tapping or a motor trying to turn and being prevented -from in behind the glove box area of the dash - it is something to do with the heating and air system as it always happens when i set the hot air to go against the front window and stops after about 45 seconds do you know what this is and what i can do to fix it

Sound like one of the HVAC actuautors is starting to fail. You would need to find out which actuator it is. (There are normally three) and replace it.
