Engine began to have a slight knocking sound as I was driving, few ours later it got louder then oil light and engine light came on. I had it towed added oil but sound did not go away. Now at volvo dealership they said there was dark burned oil in the engine. Engine had to be replaced.
Can you tell me is this the case. Am I looking to replace an engine? Can it just be repaired?

Used engines save? What is the resale of my car after?
Most importantly what is going to be the cost of this repair?

Depending on the damaged to the engine sometimes repacing would be cheaper then trying to have it rebuilt. As for a used engine I would not recommend it since you really do not know the service record on it? You could end up with the same problem?
