IT SOUNDS LIKE AN IMMOBILIZER FAULT. THERE ARE DIFFERENT REPAIRS FOR THIS CONDITION. IT CAN BE THE IMMOBILIZER ANTENNA RING, IT CAN BE THE CONNECTORS AT THE IMMOBILIZER, OR IT CAN BE A KEY MALFUNCTION. THE FIRST STEP IS TO DETERMINE WETHER THE CONDITION HAPPENS WITH ONE KEY OR BOTH.

If you need to use another key to start your vehicle then most likely your key is bad. Use the other key for a while to see if you get the same problem. Let me know what happens.

IF ITS BOTH KEYS, THEN ITS NOT A MALFUNCTION OF THE KEYS, ITS A MALFUNCTION IN THE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM: IMMOBILIZER, ANTENNA RING, OR CONNECTORS. A VOLVO DEALER WOULD BE THE NEXT STEP, UNLESS YOU KNOW SOMEBODY THAT CAN PLUG IN THE SYSTEM AND PERFORM A DIAGNOSIS.
