Hello,

I need to replace my brake light switch on my 1997 Volvo 960. Where could I find a schematic of it? Or could you tell me where it is? Thank you.

Hello I have attached the info requested. RF. Stop (brake) Light Switch, Replacement RF1. Replacement Of Stop (brake) Light Switch Remove stop light fuse. Disconnect stop light connector. Older Stop Light Switch

Unscrew stop light switch with a wrench (17 mm ). Install new stop light switch in reverse order. Test operation. New Stop Light Switch

Pull stop light switch straight back. Install new stop light switch in reverse order. Test operation.

Thank you very much. I actually got it in before remembering to check back here to find the schematic, which would have saved me a lot of time if I had remembered to check back for it. I will be sure to make a donation if you can help me on this follow up question:

I got the brake light switch in, and it is working properly, so the old problem is fixed, but now I cannot put the car in reverse. Shiftlock override works, but it is as though there are two components to the switch; one to signal the brake lights to turn on and one to let the transmission know that the brakes are being applied to allow me to shift into reverse. Thank you for your time.

Hello

You need to check to see if you are getting 12v to your shift interlock solenoid with key on if you are then the solenoid is bad and needs replacing.
