I had the same problem with my 93 940 about 5 years ago - I replaced the ignition switch - the thing you put the key in - it hasn't happened since. Apparently the contacts wear out and stop contacting now and then - especially if you hit a bump and you have a lot of weight on your key chain. It's worth a shot - intermittent problems like that are a pain!

I bought a 93 Volvo 940, non turbo, a month ago and have yet to be able to drive it 2 days straight without something going wrong. It is stalling now. With full tank of gas. When car is warm. Just had new coolant leak fixed. The car has zero head lights as a separate issue. Service engine light is ON. From what I am reading, this intermittent stalling on this year and model is common. But, what is the cause? My mechanic is going to get rich off of me. Only, I can't afford to keep fixing this car. What do you all think the issue may possibly be?

It sounds like the fuel pump is going out. when it wont run turn the key off, then turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

This guide can help:

Thank you so much for your reply! Although I was unable to figure out the cause of the stalling. I found someone who will run a diagnostic on it tomorrow.
Best regards,
Lisa
