1991 Volvo 940 Wagon Stalling

Our wagon has around 200,000 miles, automatic, fuel injected.

It has been stalling in town, sometimes stopping completely and needing to sit for a while before restarting. Very fun in traffic.

On the highway, it has been hesitating and losing power.

We have replaced the spark plugs, didn't fix it. My husband is now replacing the fuel filter (after depressurizing the system and heeding safety precautions).

My question is what our next lines of attack should be before we hire a pricey import mechanic. I imagine it's the fuel pump (not the one in the gas tank). But is there anything else (ie electrics) that we can test or try to fix ourselves before we give in to dropping a grand on this?

Thanks so much.
Yours, Mendy St. Ours  ?

I am in Canada, I had the same problem. It is the printed circuit behind the dash, like the speedo rpm etc. It is a pain, I mean a real pain to get out. It sucks, , two holes on the inside of the black surrond, put two flat head screw drivers in the holes push in. Then pull out (leave the screw drivers in as you pull it out) the black surround. . Not a Chance.
Then the whole assembly comes out no need to unscrew anything. Just lever it out, unplug, tighten all the screws on the circuit board. Now get the smallest gas operated soldering iron (see Rona. Ca web site, like Lowes but not the same) and resolder all the connections. Just touch themn in till it flows.

If your car slowly loses power and the overdrive light comes on and you can turn it off by turning over drive on and off. Then thats your problem - no new battery, no need for an alternator etc. Luck Kevin
