Engine Performance problem
1992 Volvo 940 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Hello,

My cousin has a 1992 Volvo 940GL 4 cyl automatic. The car, as she states, "Shudders and won't go over 5-10mph."

To me, this could be a range of things.

A) She has never cleaned/replaced the flame trap, maybe a cause?
B) Bad plugs/wires/dist. Cap/rotor?
C) O2 sensors?
D) Fuel filter or injector bad?
E) Trans issues?
F) Internal engine issues?
G) Wheel Bearings?

Any opinions?

Possibilities: Inspect and test all the following listed below:

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
False air leakage.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.
