Hello.
I have a 1996 850 Volvo, automatic transmission, 135,000 miles, 6 cylinder (?) well maintained.

Just got a quote from service guy that the AC evaporator is shot and must be replaced which seems to mean taking out the dash, front seats and dismantling most of the rest of the car for $2100.00

Is this worth doing or is it time to sell?

Thanks.

Hello,

the evaporator lies in a very difficult place to get to. however the evaporator in these car fail very often. I had the same problem for 2 yrs, I took the car to the dealer and none of them were able to find the leak, for sure because they didnt take the evaporator out. yours has to be replaced but the money requested for replacing it $2100 is almost the price of the car in U.S, I suggest you to find a special shop which does Air conditioning job only to have it replaced, you should never pay more than 500 dollars. even that is much..

good luck
