Does it idle O.K.? start up after stall? can you feather gas pedal and get it going?
Check fuel pressure and look for a vacuum leak like hose

it doesn't even start. i try to feather the pedal and it sounds like it will kick over but never does. a couple of times it almost started but then died. it seems maybe that it is not getting enough fuel.

I just got off the phone with the my mechanic and he said it started right up this morning--(I had it towed there last night because it wouldn't start.) He said he'll keep looking but so far can't find anything. Very honest mechanic by the way who said "No Charge"! Thanks again for your fast reply!!

You do have an Honest Tech keep him. May have been a fluke with a relay or sensor. Hope he finds out for you.

well, an update to my problem. the tech took it on a ride a second time and it finally died on him. Closer inspection did find a faulty fuel pump. The pump was $360 (bosch pump i think he said) and he charged me $150 to install it. Was that a good price??? The car is running fine now. Thankis again for replying.

Seems fair pump price set by Volvo and labor is fair for check out and the pump replacement. Don't know labor rate in your area but $90 hr is average.
