Unfortunately, there are a few hoses up there near the top of the fuel tank that can crack open and smell up your garage. With a flashlight, take a look under the car behind the right rear tire. Looking up you'll see the fuel filler neck as it goes out the side of the body. Follow it and any hoses that come off of it to the fuel tank, looking for leaks or obvious staining or discolorations. It will probably be necessary to lower the tank a bit. This can be accomplished by slowly backing out the bolt the hold the fuel tank support straps to the body. These are probably 12, 13 or 14mm bolts. Do not back them out all the way without adequate support of the fuel tank! Using an automotive swivel head mirror, check the fuel pump and fuel sender units on the top of the fuel tank for leaks (stains and discoloration). Volvo had a recall a few years ago which required refitting the shield on the drivers side of the fuel tank. If you have a leak over there and have not the recall (139 I think) completed, it wouldnt be a bad idea to give your local volvo dealer a call with your VIN and get some information.
