I have a 1997 850 GLT, 2.4 Turbo. Just recently put a new alternator and drive belt. In doing so, I found the small hose into the side of the intake manifold, behind the power steering reservoir, was broken. Repaired that and all seemed to be fine. Car was running better than ever, for about a week, and it tried to die on me yesterday. I got home, backed into my driveway, and saw a massive cloud of black smoke coming from the exhaust. It also now idles extremely low and cuts off if I let it sit and idle for a minute.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

Black smoke is a sign of unburnt fuel, you may have a leaking injector, pull the spark plugs and check for a fueled up (wet & dirty) spark plug, if only one is like this replace the plug and lead first, if not improved have the injector checked for leaking.
