1995 Volvo 850 Windshield wiper

Whenever I turn on the wipers they work fine for a few cycles, but gradually it (left wiper) starts going beyond the windshield (moves beyond the actual windshield --comes off the side). What could be the problem?

I had the same problem. Im guessing from experience with same model and series that the nut on the wiper arm has came lose for some reason I dont know why but the nut that goes through the windshield wiper ARM strips out and makes it were it wont catch with the motor. All you have to do is pop the hood look at were the arm is connected you
should see a nut holding the arm down. Make sure its tight and or may need to get a new arm because it could be striped due to old age.
