Engine Performance problem
1995 Volvo 850 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 114k miles

my mechanic has informed me that my cataltic converter needs to be replaced. They say $1000. I say I can find a cat. conv. for $200! Realistically...is that a repair I can do myself or is there computer diagnostic equipment that absolutely must be used (besides resetting the OBD)?

you can put it on yourself or buy it and have a shop do it for you.

no special tools.
