My 1994 Volvo 740 station wagon runs great when the engine is cold. When the engine warms up the car starts to putter and wont go anymore than 20 miles per hour. Sometimes the car will stall and is very hard to start again. Do you know what the problem could be? We have been told to replace, spark plugs, filters, etc. It didn't help. We were told it is the CPU or the thermostat. Wasn't that either. Please Help!Thank You.

I had a similar probem on my 740 GLT 16 Valve, it was fine as long as the car was cold however when warm it was rather gittery and tried to stall at ideling. The problem was solved when I changed the cold start valve or sensor there fore I can't remember. This is a sort of choke valve, in my case it was either the sensor not sending a signal back to the valve to open again or it was the valve that didn't open once warm. Either way this is a good place to start to look.

I should point out that I have one of the first EFI s from Volvo built in 1988 so if your's is EFI as well this could well be your problem.
