Engine Mechanical problem
1991 Volvo 740 300000 miles

I am considering buying this Volvo Wagon, for around$1,000. I am concerned because about a year ago the head gasket blew and it was repaired by a reputable mechanic. However, is it at risk for the problem to repeat.? Also it has high miles, 300,000. How long can I expect this car to run if it has been well maintained? Thanks

300,000 miles is a LOT of mileage even if it was maintanced regularly.. For $1,000 I would not buy this vehicle honestly. Did the mechanic state why the gasket cracked? Did the vehicle overheat? If there was an issue such as overheating that caused the gasket to go then there is a very good chance that it will repeat itself. If it was just due to old age then it may be ok. But with that many miles the engine has probably went through a lot so there will be a lot of wear and tear on all of the parts, not just the head gasket..
