I just purchased an 88 volvo 240. The temp gauge will immediately go to the red, this happens under any weather and driving conditions, and almost immediately. The water pump was replaced (no change) the thermostat was replaced (no change) ditto for the radiator and hoses. fan seems to operate fine, it is not an elec. fan. with the car idling, I can squeeze the not too hot radiator hoses and it will "flush" or squeeze antifreeze back into the reservoir tank! I thought it should be flowing, i.e., via the water pump. It doesn't seem to. The mech. suggested a blockage in the cylinder head. The air is cold, the heat is hot, the gauge otherwise works as it should i guess. What next?
