1988 Volvo 240 Engine Size unknown Two Wheel Drive Automatic 16 miles

My Gas Gauge for this volvo always stays on empty, no matter what. I recently filled it up, and still it signaled empty. I can drive in it fine, but i was wondering how i should go about trying to fix this.

take the signal wire and touch it to a +12v source, does it show full? if not the guage is bad, or the wiring harness pre tank is bad.

if it does show full chances are the sending unit in the tank is bad.
