Smells problem
1986 Volvo 240 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Sometimes the car runs fine and then all of the sudden it starts to sputter and smells like exhaust, why so?

ON A "RED" ENGINE, THE THINGS TO LOOK FOR ARE THE MAINTENANCE ITEMS. SUCH AS SPARK PLUGS, VALVE ADJUSTMENT, THROTTLE SERVICE, AIR FILTER, ETC. ALSO THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR COULD HAVE A PROBLEM, MAYBE LOOK AT THE PRE-HEAT T-STAT AND CHECK IF ITS STUCK IN OPEN HOT POSITION. ANY OTHER SYMPTUMS? IS THERE IS AN EXHAUST NOISE? IS THERE BLACK SMOKE COMING OUT OF EXHAUST PIPE?
