Shakes or Wobbles problem

When I drive my Volvo, it feels like something is pulling back on the engine, but intermittently and without pattern. Sometimes, it will cause the car to stop running, but not often. I've done a tune-up on the car, checked the distributor and the parts therein, and checked the fuel pumps, filter, fuel pump relay, line, and wiring. It's all good. Any ideas on what this could be?
