Car started jumping going down road and my radio kept turning off and on. this went on for about a week. then one morning g better light came on when I cranked it. I drove to work after work would not crank. Got a jump and was on the way to part store did not make car quit running while driving. I take battery out take to part store. . Battery is dead they charge and test alternator and voltage regulator is bad. is the voltage regulator different from alternator? Had alternator removed and it tested good. what can I do?

According to ALLData the voltage regulator is a part of the alternator, as it is in many (if not most) cars. Before replacing any expensive parts though, I would check fuse #60 in the under-hood fuse compartment. It is for the alternator/charging system. See diagram below.
