what should I do if the diesel gelled up? Do I need anything replaced if so how much would it cast and what should I do th prevent this again?

You going to need to remove the fuel filter (or filters if you have more than one)
pour in some "power service 911" or "melt down" in the filters.
Put the rest in the fuel tank.
And then to keep it from happening again, use something like "winter flow" as an additive when you get fuel.
