1984 Volkswagen Rabbit 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic n/a miles

my 84 rabbit does not shift from 3rd to 4th. What could this mean?

time to rebuild transmission, those transmissions are very easy you should get yourself a manual and you will have no problem.
