Engine problem
1983 Volkswagen Rabbit Engine Size unknown Front Wheel Drive Manual 180000 miles

In my Volkswagon Rabbit, though I begged my mechanic to change the fuel pump, he stated that neither the pump nor the starter was the problem, but the engine kept cutting off at the most unacceptable and embarrasing times for 6 months. It turns out the Rabbit has two wires for idle, and both hooked up are not necessary. He pulled at one of them, and the engine cut out, so, for no charge, he simply ripped out that wire, and the car has never run better, even since I bought it. So, check the wiring.

Better check where that wire goes to and comeback and tell us what its for. Could be the idle speed controller/valve/throttle position sensor.
