1999 Volkswagen Polo red light

I saw the oil light come on so i put in i.5 litres of oil. the levels of oil are correct and so is the water. But the light still comes on and the engine warms up very quickly. The oil is in the engine as I can see it when i check it. Not sure what the problem is

check the wiring to or replace the sensor !!
