Sorry for the new message, I couldn't figure out how to add on to my previous question that was submitted/answered on Mar. 18th. My Passat has been sitting in the driveway since Wed. My husband flushed the oil, replaced it with synthetic, and changed the oil filter. He was finally able to get to the screen and check for oil sludge. Which he found and cleaned out.

Now we're confused about what to do next
1) replace the oil pump and put the car back together and pray that it's fixed long enough to trade in or
2)do another flush and then put the car back together

Is there a way to test the oil pump/pressure now or does he have to put it back together first?

We're looking for the quickest/economical fix
Or should we just push it off a cliff? J/k lol
Thank you for your time !

I'm going to look up your previous post so I have more background info. Respond back to this post and just print "OK", and it will be re-posted to me.

When you removed the oil pan, was there "metallic" copper colored sediment in the bottom. In re-reading your previous post, it sounds like the engine bearings may be severely damaged and there's no "bandaid" repair for this. If I'm correct, you probably need another motor. There are good used motors available in the aftermarket. In going this route it would be considerably cheaper than new.

My husband said he didn't find any copper metallic stuff. Just some oil sludge.

How much is "some " sludge? 1/2 cup, 2 cups. More? Did the engine "rattle" when the idle speed was raised up and down slightly?
