2002 Volkswagen Passat folding mirrors

Electrical problem
2002 Volkswagen Passat 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

One mirror (passenger side) the other was out when done by switch. Now the will not open. Do you need a repair get for both sides. Do you also need a new housings and caps

Are you saying that the passenger mirror and the driver side mirror are not working?
if both do not work check the fuse for the mirors. if the fuse is bad, make sure there is no binding in the cap when mirrors are folding or unfolding causing more resistance. if the fuse is good , the switch or the connector. the problem is most likely in the switch not the cap.
start with the fuse first.

yes it is both side mirrors diag as gears stripped

Gain access to the back of the switch and check for power at the feed side of the switch using a 12 volt test light.
if there is no power at the switch, check the wiring and connections between the fuse panel and the switch.if there is power to the switch use a jumper wire across the switch circuits. if the mirrors can be operated, replace the switch.
