I just had a 50,000 mile maintenance and the mechanic noticed that the right front cv boot is torn and leaking grease. He said the axle shaft will need to be replaced. Is that correct, just for a torn cv boot?

Hello,

When a CV boot gets torn apart it allows dirt and debris to enter the joint.
It can damage the shaft depending on how much debris and how long it has been like this. If it is bad enough then changing out the complete shaft is recommended.

Here is a helpful article:

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
