2000 Volkswagen Passat Smell coming from heater vents

Hello
when i turn my heater on I get a strong burned oil smell, so i stopped using my heater but now if i sit at a light to long the smell comes thru my vents

Check engine you seem to have developed an oil leak that is getting on exhaust.
